Naranjan Singh Kalsi
Naranjan Kalsi, or lovingly known as Nana by his grandchildren and his friends lived a life marked by humility, generosity, and an unwavering dedication to his family and community. Born into the craft of joinery from the age of 15, he carried his skilled hands across continents—working in Africa, India, and finally the UK. His journey as a joiner reflected his character: honest, hardworking, and meticulous, with everything he touched shaped with care and precision.
More than his professional work, though, Nana was a man who constantly put others first. He was a selfless figure who gave his time, energy, and heart to charity and his friends, always ready to lend a hand or a kind word. His passion for bringing people together culminated in his voluntary travels across the country, where he became known for his knack for matchmaking—connecting hearts and building families with the same skill he brought to his work.
Nana’s restaurant stands today as a living testament to his life’s work, a place where community and family converge, just as they did around him. His kitchen was his stage, where his love for his family shone through every meal he prepared, with his famous chicken curry always making people feel at home. A proud and humble cook, he fed his family not just with food, but with love and laughter.
Known for his quick wit, Nana would sit at his desk, perhaps with a glass of his beloved Famous Grouse in hand, scribbling notes—never using a computer, but always sharp and organized. His handwritten lists, filled with life’s tasks and moments, reflected the simplicity and sincerity with which he approached everything. He didn’t need modern tools to get things done, because, as he would often say, “Bang bang, job done.”
Nana was a man who embodied warmth, joy, and hard work. His life, though grounded in simplicity, created ripples of love, community, and laughter that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
